How to create your travel agency? Creation and registration
In fact, for opening a travel agency in France, first know that it is an activity governed by specific legislation. So, you must ensure to register your company after you have created it.
And you should also know that travel agencies will be involved in French commercial activities because their purpose will be to sell tourist packages. So the first step you must take is to register your business.
Considering that a travel agency is subject to the requirements and strict rules of the commercial code and the tourism law, you must register the company as an SARL. Thus, after you have registered it, your travel agency will quickly obtain its registration number.
Where do you need to register?
First, before opening a travel agency, you must register with the Travel and Stay Operators. But keep in mind that your company will be on French territory. Then, you must follow a registration process that you can do online or on site.
But you will also have the possibility to register even if you are not French, but you come from an EU or EEA (European Economic Area) country. The procedure is roughly the same but you will only need to check on the official Tourism and CSR website.
What documents must you provide?
- A certificate of civil and professional liability from your insurer
That is to say, when you create a travel agency, you must subscribe to insurance to guarantee civil and professional liability; rates will vary from one insurer to another. Travel organizers must also obtain the IATA (International Air Transport Association) permit. To obtain this interaction, the French organization must register the following documents with IATA.
Also know that you will need a lot of information that should appear on the certificate attesting to the creation of a travel agency. But if you want to know a bit more, here are some pieces of information you should be aware of:
- The reference of the current regulation
The company name of the insurance company (the company you subscribed to for civil and professional liability), the insurance company must be certified.
- The reference (file number) of your insurance contract
- The company name and registered office of the travel agency (Mandatory in France)
- a prescribed application form
- a copy of the agency’s registration certificate;
- a copy of the company’s statutes
- a copy of the KBIS extract issued by the Trade Register
- a bank statement
- photos of the premises
- the agreement with agents selling airline tickets. A financial guarantee
This last one will allow you to reimburse one or more of your clients in case you make a professional error. Moreover, this guarantee will allow you to bring back all travelers in case of bankruptcy and to finance all additional expenses that may result.
