Europe Map: an overview of the old continent

Some of these countries, like Russia and Kazakhstan, have territories that extend both in Europe and Asia, while others, like Cyprus and Armenia, are culturally and historically linked to Europe but are geographically located in Asia Minor or the Near East.

Europe Map: Geopolitical Boundaries

By carefully considering the Europe map, one realizes that the continent’s land boundaries are often imprecise in the east. Indeed, in this area, there is almost no relief or sea to separate Europe from Asia.

For this reason, it is generally said that the geographical borders of Europe are more political than physical. According to Greek geographers, Europe did not extend beyond the Bosphorus Strait and the western part of the Black Sea. These countries have most of their territory either in Asia or in the Middle East. However, the political plan does not overlap with the initial geographical plan. 

As a result, Georgia retains territory on both sides of the Caucasus. For its part, Russia is Western by its culture and almost constitutes a continent due to its center of gravity. It should be noted that the most complex case on the Europe map is that of Turkey. While the majority of this nation’s territory is in the Middle East, its culture is nevertheless a mix of Western and Middle Eastern cultures.

Europe Map: Locations and Peninsulas
