The Lot is a true paradise for nature and hiking enthusiasts. It indeed offers a multitude of picturesque trails that can enchant you one after the other. So whether you are an avid camper or simply seeking adventure, here are 4 beautiful hikes to undertake from your base camp in this department.
The Pilgrim’s Route to Rocamadour

The Pilgrim’s Route to Rocamadour takes you to the heart of one of the most visited sites in France. Over 11 km long, the route requires about 3 hours of walking. Also note that the trail winds through striking landscapes and runs along the Ouysse valley as well as the Alzou valley.
You can thus end your journey by exploring the perched village of Rocamadour, a true architectural gem. It should be noted that the pilgrim’s route is rated medium difficulty with an elevation gain of 341 meters. Moreover, don’t forget to bring a good supply of water when leaving your campsite in the Lot, as the Lot climate can be warm.
The Chasm of Loubressac, Padirac and Autoire
This slightly more demanding hike promises you a day full of discoveries. Indeed, you will need about 3 h 45 to complete this loop with an elevation gain of over 320 meters on a 14.2 km route. Also note that your journey will first lead you to the famous Padirac chasm, a unique geological marvel.
You can then cross two villages ranked among the most beautiful in France: Loubressac and Autoire. A detour to the Autoire waterfall is also a must for the more courageous. Keep in mind that you should allow a full day to fully enjoy each stage.
The Cliff Path from Brengues
Also known as the “English Path,” the Cliff Path from Brengues lets you experience the medieval history of the Lot. Note that the 8 km route, lasting approximately 2 h 15, has an elevation gain of 283 meters.
Starting from the charming village of Brengues, you will walk along impressive cliffs dotted with remains of castles dating from the English occupation. Better yet, you can enjoy magnificent views of the Célé valley throughout the path. Also note that this hike is also available in a slightly longer version.
The Mont Saint-Cyr Tour in Cahors
This hike is ideal for combining a city visit and a nature walk. Indeed, the 5.3 km circuit around Mont Saint-Cyr can be done in about 1 h 30, with an elevation gain of 203 meters. Note that a somewhat steep climb will take you to the summit to reward your efforts with an unobstructed view of the city and the Lot valley.
This remains possible especially if you start from the center of Cahors. As for the descent, it is done gently along the river while forming a pleasant loop.
