But you must first go to the official website to fill in the fields dedicated to personal information. The official website is: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov and here is the information to complete:
- An email address
- Email and contact of the person to contact in case of emergency
- Civil status information appearing on the still valid passport.
In addition, you must answer some questions regarding your health status and some questions concerning security. These are mandatory fields to fill out and the answers you provide will be useful for issuing the ESTA, your electronic travel document. It is the competent authorities of the United States homeland security who will then declare after examining your answers whether you are eligible to travel to the territory or not.
The main conditions remain to provide truthful, correct, and consistent information with your passport details. Otherwise, your visa waiver will not be validated. Once the ESTA is issued, the document remains valid for 2 consecutive years, meaning that the French citizen holding the said document can travel as many times as they wish within the US territory. However, the lengths of stay should not exceed 2 months, or 90 consecutive days. This document will also allow the beneficiary citizen to travel to the Caribbean or Canada.
In the event that a French citizen wishes to stay in the United States for a period longer than that authorized by the ESTA, they will need to make a new application. This application will be made in order to obtain a US visa. Furthermore, if the French citizen has been issued a new passport, they will need a new ESTA application by filling out the online form with the new information from the said passport.
